On 26 September 2012, we will be performing
VIA INTOLLERANZA II at the invitation of the “Miedzynarodowy Festiwal Teatralny Warszawa Centralna” Festival in Warsaw. The festival is taking place this year under the motto "Mistifications" (Mistyfikacje).
Does the foreign word “intolerance” have any meaning at all on the African continent? And what does it mean in Germany? Does it make sense to take a closer look at tolerance? Or has this foreign word become a mere buzzword which we use to describe antagonisms (in the hope, perhaps, of opposing these), but with which we nevertheless reinforce exactly these antagonisms? The 12-member VIA INTOLLERANZA II ensemble is made up of actors, dancers and singers from Germany and Burkina Faso, where the first rehearsals took place in 2009 alongside Schlingensief’s efforts to realise his idea of an intercultural Opera Village in Africa with the help of the Goethe Institute, the German Foreign Office and the government of Burkina Faso. When he discovered the location for the Opera Village Africa near the capital city of Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou, Christoph Schlingensief found a place where his “circling thoughts found a base”.
